Make No Small Plans - G. Lyon, D. Mawdsley, K. Bayer, C. Lin, D. Reed

I picked this graphic novel up 57th St. Books in Hyde Park about a year ago after hearing about it on the local news a couple of times. The overall concept is noteworthy - its a graphic novel that is geared towards young people who might be interested in urban planning and community engagement. There are three story lines that are threaded throughout the book, one in the past, one in the present, and one in the future. Each follows a young person that is engaging in an important urban planning topic and, consequently, discovering ways that they can become involved in the community discussion.

Overall, the contents of the book were somewhat forgettable for me but I’m, of course, not the intended audience. Rather, I’m the intended purchaser of it since every copy sold provides a free copy for a Chicago Public School student. And as a transit-advocating, urban-planning-degree-holding, Chicago-native YIMBY, I couldn’t be happier to oblige!
