Earning the Rockies - Robert D. Kaplan
I wanted to be more interested in this book. I picked it up because it it’s asking how American geography impacted the nation’s place in international politics. That’s a compelling question! I just didn’t engage with the book enough to get the full answer. At the root of it, America’s geographic position with two massive coast lines allow it (and more specifically its navy) to have a presence all over the globe. The answer is a lot more complicated than this, but I’ll be honest, I skimmed the second half of the book. I’m realizing that I’m more of a domestic policy issue guy.
